Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme
Exceptionally qualified PhD applicants with excellent academic records may apply for a Hong Kong PhD Fellowship awarded by the Research Grant Council of Hong Kong. Successful candidates will be awarded HK$240,000 (~USD 30,770), plus a travel allowance of HK$10,000 (~USD1,280) per year, for three years. The School of Engineering at HKUST has been most successful among any Hong Kong institutions in recruiting the highest numbers of HKPF awardees in the last 8 years in a row.
Diversified Learning Cultures

International Internship Program
Students from institutions outside Hong Kong who wish to spend two to six months at School of Engineering to fulfill their directed research or internship assignment may apply for the internship program. Such visiting students will be admitted to an Engineering department, and they are required to take a special research project course but are not enrolled on specific programs of the University.
Overseas Research Awards
A number of senior PhD students will be selected every year to receive the overseas research awards. This attachment program aims to enrich students’ research experience and provide students with exposure to a foreign culture and environment, so that they can have a better preparation for their academic as well as career developments. The overseas research attachment period may range from two to six months.
