School of Engineering faculty members are internationally known scholars who are committed to research and teaching. They are widely recognized by top international and national honors, including Chang Jiang Scholars, State Natural Science Awards, IEEE Marconi Prize Paper Award, to name a few.
Many of them are Fellowship recipients of honorary and professional societies, including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), Croucher Senior Research, Society for Information Display (SID), Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), and more.
To demonstrate their leadership roles further in the international academia, our faculty members have taken up key administrative positions in major professional societies, including President of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Vice-President – Asia of the Society for Information Display, Regional Vice-President (Asia) of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), Vice-President of the IEEE Communications Society.
Similar to their teachers, our students have also earned wide acclaim internationally and nationally. Their research capabilities are demonstrated by the numerous best student paper awards they have received in international conferences. They have also showed their creativity and care for the society in many engineering design competitions, by providing innovative solutions in people’s daily lives. Their technical competency is also shown in many project competitions where they represented Hong Kong and gained excellent results in the regional and international contests.
Institutionally, the School of Engineering recognizes research and teaching excellence of its faculty members with institutional awards. These include the SENG Research Excellence Award and the Teaching Excellence Appreciation Award. HKUST also organizes many institutional award schemes, where SENG faculty members and students are widely recognized.
