Nearly 170 HKUST Engineering alumni, faculty and staff gathered together at Summer Social Mixer on 29 August 2017 (Tuesday) at a co-working space in Kwun Tong. This was the first happy hour event that mixed Engineering alumni with eight alumni associations and fresh graduates to allow all SENG senior and junior alumni to mingle.
The HKUST Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Alumni Homecoming Workshop 2017, organized by the Department of CSE, was held successfully on 17 June 2017 (Saturday) on campus, attracting over 70 alumni, students, faculty and guests to attend the event and learn the current topics of "Systems, Applications, Networks and Data (SAND)" as the theme of workshop.
Industrial engineering alumna Isabel Siheng Ji found her passion in design thinking during her undergraduate years at HKUST. She furthered her studies in this area with a master’s degree and is currently developing her career in the digital marketing industry in the US. She shares what she finds interesting about design thinking and how she applies this in her role to design digital strategy for The Coca-Cola Company.
The School of Engineering (SENG) and HKUST Shenzhen Research Institute (SRI) co-organized a forum themed “TECHxSTARTUP Sharing” followed by an alumni spring dinner in Shenzhen on 25 March 2017 (Saturday). Over 120 cross-disciplined alumni and faculty members attended this joy-filled gathering, broadened their network, exchanged knowledge and experience.
A Civil Engineering alumnus and an undergraduate student, who were both supervised by Prof Charles Ng in their final year projects, were awarded a student prize and a scholarship respectively by the Geotechnical Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.
Ms Yating Wan, PhD student from the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering, and Dr Zhenglong Xu, 2016 PhD graduate from the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, have been named the recipients of the School of Engineering PhD Research Excellence Awards 2016-17.
Karen Ka Long Leong received the 2016 ASME Arthur L Williston Medal with her paper on fuel choice regulation in the marine industry. She talks about how her winning work could help the environment and how she enjoys being an engineer.
