Students who would like to declare all additional majors within School of Engineering other than COSC, should refer to the following procedures:
According to the University, with the approval of the relevant Major-program Coordinators, students may complete the requirements for more than one major program. Interested students please complete the form (RR-47) (http://arr.ust.hk/reg/forms/r-47.pdf) downloadable from ARR’s website. Before application, please also read through the important notes specified on the form.
To graduate with an additional major, students must take all the requirements specified for that major, within which they must complete at least 20 single-counted credits. These 20 credits cannot be used to fulfill any other requirements for graduation except for the 120-credit degree requirement. Major program(s) should have their own set of major-specific requirements and selection criteria. Please seek advice from the corresponding UG coordinator(s) and make sure you understand the requirements before you apply. In addition to the University’s regulations, Major(s) within same Engineering Department would not be allowed.
Eligibility and application procedure:
i) Students should submit along with the Advising Record Form (AM-1) a feasible study plan, the unofficial transcript and the application form of Declaration/Withdrawal of Additional Undergraduate Major Program (RR-47) to the Departments in concern. Students are strongly encouraged to seek advice from the Program Director/UG coordinator of their home department before declaring additional majors. The Advising Record Form shall facilitate your discussion with the Program Director/UG coordinator of first major and intended major(s). Study plan should be reviewed and approved by the Program Director or UG coordinator of the intended major program(s). The completed forms and document should be submitted to School of Engineering for approval.
ii) Students must have already enrolled in a first major before they can declare additional major(s). Students in the undeclared major program must not apply. Students must declare their intention no earlier than the second regular term of their second year of study and no later than the last day of add/drop period in the first regular term of the final year of study.
iii) Students with CGA of 3.3 or above may apply.
i) To graduate with an additional major, students must fulfill the requirements specified for that major. At times, students may use the same course or learning experience to fulfill the requirements of all declared majors, providing that the selected courses or learning experience are able to achieve the Program Intended Learning Outcomes of all majors. In particular, the selection of Industrial Training/ Internship, Academic and Professional Development course(s), language course(s) and Final Year Thesis/Project(s) should be well thought and approved by the Departments in concern.
ii) For Final Year Thesis/Project, students may undertake one tailor-made FYT/FYP if that project could achieve the program outcomes of two or even more declared majors. However, students should note that they may also be required to undertake separate project for individual disciplines. Students are required to seek academic advice from the Departments in concern for the selection of FYT/FYP. For students intended to undertake one tailor-made FYT/FYP, please fill in Form IFY-1. In order to ensure both majors’ Program ILOs can be achieved, a review group would be formed to review the Integrated FYP/FYT proposed by the students.
For students who would like to declare major(s) from other Schools or IPO, approval from the receiving department should be sought. Please seek advice from the UG coordinators of first major and intended major(s). Students should complete the application form (RR-47) (http://arr.ust.hk/reg/forms/r-47.pdf) which can be downloaded from ARR’s website and seek approval from the relevant parties as required.
