HKUST School of Engineering offers research postgraduate programs in a wide range of disciplines, leading to Master of Philosophy (MPhil) / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees which involve the completion of coursework, independent research and thesis defense.

Concentrations

In addition to MPhil / PhD program requirements, student can opt for one of the following concentrations and fulfil the additional requirements of electives as stipulated in the concentration curriculum. Completion of concentration requirements will be formally noted on student’s official transcript.

School Requirements on PhD Programs

The school requirements aim to help students gain a wider exposure to multidisciplinary areas, and attain all-rounded learning by broadening their knowledge base.

All full-time and part-time PhD students are required to take at least a 3-credit course at 5000-level or above outside their programs offered by the School of Engineering.  Please note that courses with exclusions from / co-listed with courses of the home department/programs should not be considered for fulfilling the school requirements.
