The Student Exchange Program

Launched in 1996/97 with a handful of exchange students traveling in both directions, the School of Engineering exchange program has enjoyed steady growth in the intervening years. Currently, the School has 40-plus overseas exchange partner institutions covering many regions, including the US, Canada, UK, Continental Europe and Asia.

Exchange Studies at HKUST Engineering

The School of Engineering has six academic departments, all of which offer undergraduate programs leading to the degree of Bachelor of Engineering (BEng), and graduate programs leading to the degree of Master of Science (MSc), Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Exchange students are assigned to an engineering department that best matches their home major department.

Curricula at HKUST are credit-based. Undergraduate education normally lasts for three years. On average, exchange students at undergraduate level or equivalent take five courses in a semester, adding up to approximately 15 credits. Students can choose a combination of courses across different disciplines to fulfill their academic needs, provided that they fulfill the prerequisites of the respective course(s).

Students can choose a combination of courses from the full-time postgraduate disciplinary engineering programs, Bioengineering Program and Environmental Engineering Program, provided that they can meet the course prerequisites.

All HKUST's approved courses can be found in the Academic Calendar. The language of instruction is English, except for some humanities and social science courses.
