I graduated from high school in the summer of 2017, and was ranked top 50 out of more than 200,000 people in China’s Gaokao. Standing at the crossroads of life, the various options perplexed me: whether to choose the top universities in Mainland China and study business, which seemed a glorious and secure pathway for me as a high school student, or to venture out, leaping into the thriving but currently male-dominated tech industry. Owing to some vague ambition and rebellion as a youngster, it didn’t take long for me to make the decision. I chose HKUST School of Engineering, attracted by its world-class faculty in Computer Science and the international environment of Hong Kong.

The first year in HKUST didn’t disappoint me, and the brand new experience helped me transit from a typical student to a person who is willing to appreciate the beauty of life and the virtues of others. From my perspective, HKUST has never been a university of stress and tension, but a university of serenity and tranquility. As I dive deeper into my major, I gain a feeling of pride and commitment as an engineer, and a belief that technology is the right thing that leads us to a brilliant future. It’s my great pleasure to be among the ESA family, sharing my joy and enthusiasm with the exterior world.
